Single Review - “Both Can Be True” by Trousdale
The topic of duality rarely finds space in music, which more often than not portrays the world in Black-and-white scenarios. The idea of addressing that "You can face your fears and still be terrified," or "Someone's pain and Someone's laughter can be in the same room, at the same time," are real-world scenarios that never make their way to the proverbial pen and pad because they're either not catchy enough or lack the earworm ability.
However, for the group Trousdale, they pulled off this rarely challenged task on their new single, "Both Can Be True," a three-minute song that tackles the wins and losses that accompany duality while displaying their trademark Heavenly harmonization. The beauty of “Both Can Be True” is that we have all been there at one time or another. Feeling like the winner and the loser of an outcome, winning the battle but losing the war, winning the argument but hurting someone you care about in the process.
One of Trousdale’s greatest traits is their songwriting ability, which is rooted in realism. There are no aspects that are larger than life. Instead, their songwriting feels like a phone conversation between friends recapping their last Wednesday shenanigans. Through the few minutes of this tune, the one thing that is equally as captivating as their storytelling is their musicality, which rivals any of their contemporaries. Trousdale has always been the cream of the crop in terms of their sound quality, but for “Both Can Be True,” their sound finds a way to include more pop, find a dynamic lane, and allow the women to mesmerize your ears through their gold-standard-level singing.
Overall, “Both Can Be True” is a fantastic single for their forthcoming album and a track that you should check out. You can listen to the single here!
