Single Review - “Big Dipper” by Nayla Savannah

“Big Dipper” by Nayla Savannah, if nothing else, is a reminder that it is okay to take time away from the stresses of the hustle & bustle of life, to relax (maybe) smoke, and find your center or group with a few friends to enjoy yourself, the beauty of life, and, regarding that stress, let it go.

Nayla’s style of artistry on this track is one of keeping the core principles to remaining smooth, cohesive, and refusing to go above your head. Reminiscent of a freestyle smoke session among friends, Nayle rides the instrumental with an early Wiz Khalifa-style fluidity. She offers reassuring words that sometimes stress is the last thing you want to do, and most of the time, your mental health needs to hear that.

Production-wise, the track offers the ambiance of a midnight hang-out session with your friends on top of a parking garage. Maybe a tad too specific, but Nayle places the viewer there without trying. Maybe it is her voice, maybe it’s the background horn oozing across the instrumental as she raps about her life, or perhaps it’s the full package. Either way, the track manages to be relaxing and encouraging without the bolstering that typically accompanies the natural swagger of rappers.

The Long Beach product, through the nearly two-minute track, skates across with a veteran’s ability, and whether you know it or not, by the track’s end, no matter the situation, you will find your stresses “let go.”
