Concert Review - “Glad You Came” Tour by Mario
Concert junkie here, and you know what’s better than a concert? Traveling to somewhere different to go to a concert. Across the border from Detroit to Sweden, to see my fave! Judge your Mama! A time was had.
A night to remember in the Swedish capital, Stockholm, Sweden, Mario, better known as my Fave, closed out his “Glad You Came" Tour. I was hyped to be in attendance, front row, of course, to witness all the magic. I knew it would be firsthand, and what a great experience it was.
Mario's (Mr. Vocals) performance was nothing short of spectacular. With his smooth vocals and captivating stage presence, he effortlessly (as he always does) puts the ladies in a trance.
One of the highlights of the show was the thoughtfully curated setlist. Mario performed a mix of hit singles, including the tour namesake, "Glad You Came." He also performed some deep cuts that fans don't often hear in the US, like “I Choose You,” “Skippin,” and “Thinking Bout You.” It was exciting to see him showcase his musical range and cater to his dedicated fanbase, such as myself.
As someone who has followed Mario's career and attended more than enough shows in the US, it was amazing to see him bring the same energy and passion to the Stockholm crowd.
In the past, I have gotten annoyed when he is booked as a supporting act; as his talent and discography warrant more stage time, those 20-minute sets just ain’t it. However, on this tour, he was the clear star. His performance was everything I needed and wanted it to be, plus more.
If I had to choose something that didn't quite live up to my expectations, it would be the balance between his newer album and hit singles. As a fan who's been with him since the early days (Day 1), I would have loved to see more songs from his latest album featured prominently in the setlist, with his hits sprinkled in as support. It was the "Glad You Came" tour after all. Nonetheless, the overall performance was fantastic. His dedication to his craft is evident in every performance, and this show was no exception.
One aspect that truly stood out was Mario's choreography. Unlike some of his previous shows, this tour featured intricate dance routines that showcased his versatility as a performer. I was shocked by all his new moves and dance breaks, especially while performing “C’mon," and the beat mix with Jay-Z’s "Give It to Me" was something I never knew I needed.
He was accompanied by two dancers on stage, including his beautiful long-time dancer Janeeva Peeteay. They added an extra layer of energy and visual appeal, and it was clear that everyone involved had a blast performing together.
Adding to the excitement was special guest Eric Bellinger, who brought his brand of R&B magic to the stage. His soulful voice and smooth delivery complemented Mario's performance perfectly, leaving the audience wanting more
Listen, the "Glad You Came" tour is a testament to Mario's enduring appeal as a talented R&B artist. If you are a fan, you know what to expect: an unforgettable night of music, energy, and entertainment. This tour is the perfect introduction to his soulful sounds. The Stockholm show was the last stop of the tour, and I am grateful to have experienced it. Mario's performance was a reminder of why he's a favorite among R&B fans, including me - duh. If you missed this tour, do not worry; the U.S. "Glad You Came" tour is coming up soon, and trust me, you would not want to miss it.
