Single Review - “You Just Wanna Get With My Friend” by Sammy Rae & The Friends
“You Just Wanna Get With My Friend” by Sammy Rae & The Friends once again offers the energy that new music should always bring: a feeling of ecstatic anticipation of what’s to come and a pure admiration for what you are hearing. Instrumentally dynamic, vocally soothing, and subject matter that captures your imagination.
Sammy Rae is one of music’s most vivid storytellers. Her ability to paint a proper oil canvas is second to none. On the Friend’s latest single, “You Just Wanna Get With My Friend,” she once again brings the listener to her point of view, by telling the story of a potential fling gone wrong, detailing an all-too-familiar scenario of perhaps having too much mental (and flirtatious) energy invested in someone who sees you as nothing more than a moment (I can’t believe she danced with Kevin); a truly heartbreaking experience.
Instrumentally, for longtime friends of SR&TF, you understand that this is always their bread and butter. They can shift a song from decent to iconic in a blink. However, the ever-changing instrumental shift makes you enjoy every beat, horn, or 70s groove thrown your way. Through the nearly three and a half minute song, it is nonstop fun, and you might find yourself playing the song on repeat if you’re not too careful.
Overall, this song should make you excited for more tracks to come from SR&TF, a truly brilliant lead single.
