Single Review - “Dangerous Lover” by Sekou

Sekou has quickly and quietly become one of my favorite artists. His deep voice, great ear for instrumentals, and unique harmonies are simply what music is missing, and with his new song “Dangerous Lover,” he does what comes naturally and, in lack of better terms, proves me right. Dare we say, the rookie of the year?

What makes “Dangerous Lover” special is that it is a situation that we all can relate to. Each of us has come across that one person who’s maybe too beautiful for our own good, too great at slick-talk, or perhaps they do that one thing with their eyes, and you find yourself thinking about them far longer than you should. In essence, that’s the story of “Dangerous Lover,” having to deal with someone who may be too toxic for our well-being, but we stay in their vicinity with the off-chance that things will change in our favor. Fortunately, Sekou knocks it out of the park with both the messaging and the quality of this song.

“Dangerous Lover” is one of those songs meant for the summertime. It has everything you could want from an 80-degree day with the window down: a catchy hook, a beat where you can hit your best two-step, and, of course, lyrics that are clear, concise, and most importantly, relatable.  Over the course of three minutes, Sekou and his iconic afro take us on a fun audio journey that should make its way onto everyone’s playlist.
