Single Review - “Desires” by Keshon Campbell

“Desires” by Keshon Campbell is a synth-heavy pop track that takes the formula of modern R&B, which focuses on the hypothetical bleeding-heart scenario of drowning in love, or in this case, desires. It’s an easy listen meant for late-night sessions of solo daydreaming, wondering if that one person you miss will text you first, or you simply want to message them but can’t due to … ya know… reasons. 

“Hate me when I’m honest, love me when I’m lying, drown me in the fire, fulfill all of your desires,” sings Keshon, who, through the three-minute track, lets his heart free on the alternative pop-psych pop track, bringing you into his musical world without creating a song that is too overzealous or overly ambitious. 

“Desires” is a commitment you rarely see in modern R&B/pop. In a genre that finds a unique blend of committing to singing without actually committing to singing, Keshon finds a proper lane in being able to sing through small doses of end-of-verse harmonies or the ever-catchy hook, which offers him the proper space to shine without coming across as whiny despite the track’s subject matter.

YTC, as a producer, offers a controlled pace that feels more akin to setting the aforementioned midnight mood. Whether it’s through the echoing drums, measured tempo, or repetitive synths that fit a modern puzzle game. YTC has a musical knack for these scenes, and alongside Keshon, they created a steady, strong tune for the genre.
