EP Review - “Miss Michigan” by Momo Boyd

Miss Michigan by Momo Boyd is a beautifully moving EP that encapsulates the feeling of a Michigan Fall driving through a highway while leaving all your worries behind. Perhaps Momo Boyd's music is crafted for the anti- pretentious crowd. Those who enjoy music for the sake of the vibes outrank messages, where the strum of a guitar has no other meaning besides putting your ears at ease or enjoying the lyrics of a song because it's not something you've ever been through. But the painting of the picture is too vivid not to enjoy. Miss Michigan is an album where you can either put on in the background and enjoy the story of life or put on your headphones and hear each syllable soothe you from the singer's graceful voice.

One of the best aspects about Miss Michigan is that it's not a heavy listen. At no point during this album will you find yourself checking to see how much time remains in a song or how many songs remain on the album. It's a rather straightforward project that captures musical magic, avoiding too many twists and turns in music. The story of a song never overstays its welcome without leaving the proverbial "money on the table."

The album, subject-wise, focuses on the many throws of love we have all experienced at one point or another. Between the highs of infatuation and the lows of knowing a situationship will not last, Momo does a fantastic job of tackling these topics over the relaxing guitars of her siblings in "Infinity Song."

Through seven songs that last just over twenty minutes, you're sure to find music that speaks to the soul that longs for peace. Miss Michigan is for those who are purposefully charming, deliberate in slowing down life, and nostalgic for a time of love you may have never experienced. There is always a visual element to every song, and as you check out this project, you will find yourself enjoying these visual components without ever seeing a picture.
