Single Review - “Runway” by Lady Gaga and Doechii
I never thought I would live in a world where a Doechii and Lady Gaga collaboration would be possible. However, we are here, and this musical reality is glorious. Their latest song, “Runway,” is from the upcoming film, “The Devil Wears Prada 2.” The duo puts their best audio foot forward to craft a fashion-show anthem that will have you practicing your model walk.
Lady Gaga and Doechii share many similarities. Between their high fashion sense, the fact that they are both highly touted as the top-tier of creativity within their respective genres or the fact that both artists have an immense amount of natural talent which have drawn lovers and haters alike in droves to support and attempt to forcibly-cancel their careers, there are plenty of parallels between the two, which begs the question of how they never collaborated before this song?
Whether it’s the 90s sample, the drums, or the fact that the artists ooze charisma in their sleep, the upbeat dance track has Doechii and Lady Gaga showing out for nearly three minutes, both singing, “From Monday through Sunday, I can turn a dancefloor into a runway.” While you could say this track would only appeal to the closing credits of those finishing an entertaining film, one could argue that this track could, and rightfully should be played on the radio before Friday night activities. Let’s be serious. This is Doechii and Lady Gaga.
Overall, this song is fun. It’s short, yes. But fun. Gaga’s solo portion is small, but memorable, with Doechii taking the majority of the song. Overall, I need an album from these two ladies as soon as possible.
