Single Review - “Punk Rocky” by A$AP Rocky

It’s certainly been far too long since we last heard from A$AP Rocky. Noting his weird feud with Drake, acting, and of course the never-ending carousel of fatherhood, the idea of Rocky returning to the music scene was viewed as a fable for far longer than we would like to admit. However, with his latest single “Punk Rocky,” the A$AP diplomat returns to the music world with a sound that’s more melodic than bar-heavy.

Rocky has always been more creative than an emcee. That’s no knock towards his writing or status as an emcee, but a compliment to his versatility as an artist. Few rappers would be willing to take on the challenge of the sporadic “Wild for The Night” instrumental, or putting together the collage of brilliance that is “1Train.” However, in 2026, Punk Rocky is a new exploration that showcases Rocky's alternative rock prowess and subtle singing voice.

Laced with a tame guitar riff reminiscent of 2010's Gym Class Heroes, Rocky channels his best Travi$ McCoy and commits to neither singing nor rapping, finding a Kid Cudi-esque lane that exists for the sake of music rather than the message. What concludes is a fun song that should excite fans for the long-awaited third album of Rocky, Don’t Be Dumb.
