Single Review - “Unbound” by Peterice Estelle

Hardships usually cause life's greatest lessons. However, for musicians, the experiences create magic that grows into our audio theme songs. For singer Peterice Estelle, her single “Unbound” features the songstress chronicling her most difficult life lessons into a power anthem as the single belts through the near four-minute track.

Describing transparency as a singer's superpower would almost be too accurate. Artists are notoriously sensitive about their craft because every moment spent in the booth is reminiscent of a journal, where memories, ideas, and truth spill without second thought.  Every waking moment of their songwriting, beat selection, and topic choice comes from the idea of remaining transparent; so, for “Unbound,” it should come as no surprise that Peterice Estelle makes every bar feel as though it is coming from years of hard-earned experience.

“They don’t know the half, that’s the surface view,” sings Peterice to open the track. While her lyrics touch on everything from fake friends praying for her downfall to her ultimate growth as a person, the single, if nothing else, is the rags-to-riches tale from a singer poised for mainstage success.

Instrumentally, the single is backed by a modern R&B instrumental that feels more movie soundtrack-esque. Toned down and tempered is the name of the game for the near autobiographical single, and while Peterice takes full advantage of the stillness of the instrumental, the easygoing nature of the beat offers a fantastic service of setting the scene for the songstress.

Overall, “Unbound” is a lead single that allows Peterice to thrive in her element as a storyteller, while displaying flashes of brilliance as a pure vocalist. You can listen to the single here.
